VA Beach

My friend Lauren is the coolest! I met her early 2006 after she came back from a 3 year mission in Budapest, Hungry. Lauren grew up in good ol Seneca, SC and went to Presbyterian college. She played volleyball and softball there and I met her at the adult leagues in Greenville.

So that being said, Lauren was asked to speak at a church in Virginia Beach during the July 4th weekend. This church had sent members over to Hungry while Lauren was there and they wanted Lauren to give her testimony, hang out etc. So knowing full well that I would hop in a car and take a long road trip on a whim, she asked me to accompany her to what I know think is the "bestest place on earth".

We stayed with the sweetest couple from the church. He was an ex Navy man and she was a FANTASTIC cook! They opened their homes and hearts to us.

Once Lauren and I arrived to VA Beach, we went for a long jog, that was cut short (2.5 miles...Lauren kills me with the half marathon distances) to see a volleyball court on the beach. We stopped, chatted and played around a little.

After a shower we went out to a yummy seafood restaurant. After dinner we met an ex navy guy that explained to me how to spot the military mean versus the non military. I must say, military men are okay in my book ;-)

Lauren spoke at the church and received many well wishes from the members. It was amazing to meet so many caring people. After church we explored First Landing State Park where the English settlers landed in 1607. It was a lovely experience and I am thankful Lauren asked to to be her travel buddy!

Another Charleston Weekend

Okay so I am way behind on my posts, but since my recent surgery that has left me coach-bound, I have high hopes of catching up on everything past. Back in oh June 2006 Lynn and I went to Charleston again for another EEVB tournament. We played open doubles. Lynn's birthday was the Thursday before so we ate in Mac Grill on her honor and I asked them to sign "Happy Birthday". If you have ever experienced a birthday at Mac Grill, sometimes the sign in Italian Operaish type. An embarresed Lynn is a Happy Jackie!!!

We stayed at Shevlin's new pad. It is less than a mile from IOP and looks like something out of cribs. Backyard pool, spa and the house was CLEAN!!!

We went to none other than wild wings that night. Lynn and I barely drank. I actually think that I did not drink at all and Lynn and I ended the night by playing scavenger hunt at the bar...example find white sneakers...etc. I had a blast.

Chris Ward and cute family came down to the beach and they are doing great. Chris actually joined us for a pint and it was wonderful to see an old friend!!

Chicago

Memorial Day I flew back home to Chicago to visit my brother and sis-in-law. While I was there we went on an architectural boat tour and went to see Spam-A-Lot. They also had a gathering at their house. Here are some of the pictures.

Girl's night

At least once a month, the ladies try to get together for dinner, movies or anything fun. This is a picture of one such outing. All of the ladies either play volleyball or a gf or wife of a guy that plays. It really is such a wonderful group of ladies!! This was SKIRTS only night.

A good ol fashioned kegger

So my friend Lynn had a kegger a while back. Here are some of the pics. I promise, I don't drink much, but bad things happen when you play 7 straight games of the blasted pong!

Cinco de Mayo

So, yes these pictures are from a while ago. I planned on playing volleyball with these people, but the rain storms sent us scurrying for Coronas.

We don't wear shoes in our house

You ask and ask them to take their shoes off when they enter the house, but they just don't listen.

Biltmore on Easter

On Easter, my father and I enjoyed the Biltmore house near Ashevillle, NC. We bought the yearly pass, in case anyone is interested. My favorite room was his bedroom with the windows open and the sheer white curtains blowing in the breeze. It was a beautiful day. I am adding some of the tulip pictures and one picture of a funky hangy ball.

Jodi, I will miss you

Jodi and Alex came to visit before they moved to Richmond. We spent most of our last time together staring at the delicious pies at Coffee Underground.

Run Charleston, Run

On a bright and sunny Friday, Julia, Lynn and Jackie begin their adventure to Charleston for the Cooper River Bridge Run. This is a 10K run, amazingly over the Cooper River Bridge. We started the festivities at the Library, where Kari and JB joined us. They were visions in pink...Wait JB was wearing salmon.
We enjoyed dinner at the Southern Brewery, which is a lot like Blue Ridge in Greenville. Dinner was delicious and then it was off to bed.
At 6:30 we FINALLY awoke and rushed to get to the race. We walked two miles from our hotel to the start line. Lynn started in front with all the "cool" people and Julie and Jackie jumped in not much behind her.

We all finished the race, Lynn in 44 minutes, Jackie in 57 minutes and Julie in 64 minutes. I was proud of everyone and the race was over...or was it...
We then had a few beverages at the roof top bar at the square. Corona tastes real nice after 6 miles!!! I ran in to Nick there. It was awesome to see him. Apparently, Brent Stover was supposed to be around, but was no where to be found. Anyone who knows Brent will laugh at that. Never did see Brent.

After lunch at the Brick (which is a dive, but the food was grrrrreat), us chicks went to IOP for some sand volleyball. We actually played on the main court at the "Jammer". Lynn and Jackie, were the two crazies who actually went swimming in the ocean. I have decided to add surfing on my list of things to do...

After a shower, power nap, and dinner the "chicks" went for a night on the town. We started at Henry's (everyone always does) and wandered to Wet Willies. How we decided on Wet Willies is beyond me, but I actually had a good time. We started dancing and wanted more. Kari recommended we go to City Bar and boy was that a good idea.
We danced more, a whole lot more and when I came back from getting another drink, Lynn was wearing a captains hat.

See in the blurred image from Carolinanightlife.com

The owners of the hat were a bunch of guys from Atlanta. We proceeded to dance and laugh with them to the end of the night. Much love guys!!!

Sunday morning it was breakfast at Vickery's and back to the beach for more volleyball and a little beach football, props to Nick's friend Ross for the football. We all learned that since I am an only child, I can throw but not catch. I am really bad!!

It was a super fun weekend and I am glad for all the memories made.

Hi Neighbor!

A couple weekends ago I played in a big southeast indoor volleyball tournament. For a group of girls that have not played together I think we did pretty well, with the exception of when the tsunami hit. This was one of the most fun times I have had in a while, on and off the court! The picture is the team. Some from Greenville, Charleston and Columbia.
